Tissue integrity is fundamental to your horse’s health and athleticism. Tissue fragility can be due to dietary deficiencies, injury, repetitive strain, normal aging or low grade inflammation.
Tissue Tonic supplies phytonutrients which aid tissue strength and health through minimising infection, supporting the healing, minimising scar tissue formation, controlling low grade inflammation and improving circulation.
What is it?
Tissue Tonic is a blend of liquid extracts of Butcher’s Broom (Ruscus aculeatus), Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica) and Blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum), formulated and manufactured by qualified medical herbalists, James and Vanessa Hart. The extracts are made to a strength of 500mg/ml of dry herb equivalent.
Butcher’s Broom. Historical use in treating venous disorders, capillary fragility and capillary haemorrhage
Gotu Kola stimulates tissue regeneration and helps reduce scarring.
Black Currant is high in Vit C as well as Bioflavonoids which are very supportive of micro circulation and helps to maintain the strength of connective tissue.
Liquid extracts are preferable to dried herbs because they are more bioavailable and are absorbed more quickly, so they act much faster. By virtue of the extraction process liquids also have a much longer shelf life.
When can I use it?
When ever you need tissue fortification. Compounds called bioflavonoids (vitamin P) and vitamin C . The main function of vitamin C is in the synthesis of collagen. Collagen together with elastin, determine the mechanical properties of connective tissue ie. tendons, ligaments, cartilage, bone, muscle cells, blood vessels and red blood cell formation.
1. To support normal joint growth and aid in recovery from conditions like Epiphysitis or OCD.
2. For older horses it will help to provide support in arthritis or other degenerative conditions.
3. General tissue health:
- helps minimise possible infection
- Bioflavonoids enhance the immune system to fight infection more effectively
- Increased Vit C intake is believed to be protective for respiratory infection.
- support healing process to minimise scar tissue formation
- controls inflammation
4 Bioflavonoids are also known for their anti-inflammatory properties.
5 Improve circulation.
6 Promote and expediete healing of tissue and to boost circulation for laminitics
7 Supports healing for uveitis
How much should I use?
Generally speaking acute situations require bigger doses and similarly bigger horses need more. The following suggestions can be used as a guide:
Horses: 10 - 20 ml twice daily
Ponies: 5 - 10 ml twice daily
Are there any constraints or contra-indications?
Butcher’s Broom, Gotu Kola and Blackcurrant are all considered safe herbs.
Can it be used in Racing or Competition?
Under FEI regulations Butcher’s Broom, Gotu Kola and Blackcurrant are not included in the restricted list.
However to be on the safe side make sure you check with the appropriate body before using Tissue Tonicin competition.
