Cushings is caused by a tumour in pituitary gland or by the gland over working. Either way, the hormonal imbalances that result can affect the entire body. The most common symptom is a thick, long curly coat that does not shed during springtime.Combined with the visible symptoms you will also often find a depressed immune system.
Burdock Root is an alterative herb and one of the best blood purifiers nature has provided.Alterative herbs clean and purify the blood as well as toning the organs (liver and kidneys). An excellent blood cleanser, its bitter taste also stimulates digestion.Rich in iron and insulin, burdock root lifts the blood as well as providing support for the liver. Support for the liver is essential for any horse with Cushings, as the liver is largely responsible for regulating hormone levels within the body.
Chasteberry alters prolactin levels in the body and recent explanations regarding what may cause Cushings Syndrome believe that high levels of prolactin cause the characteristic insulin resistant diabetes-like state. Agnus Castus or Chasteberry has excellent results with older horses and ponies with Cushings and/or who struggle to shed their coats.
Chasteberry maintains normal hormonal activity and provides support to the pituitary gland and whole endocrine system.
Echinacea root is the best known herb to support the body’s immune system as well as being one of the best herbs for blood cleansing. Echinacea is a valuable alternative to anti-biotics and can be used to support the body against viral and bacterial infections, as well as boosting the immune system in times of illness or stress.
Milk Thistle Seeds are very valuable in the treatment of any liver disorder. They are also the herb of choice to detoxify the body. Milk thistle contains a flavoniod (Vitamine P) called silymarin that has a direct effect on the liver, therefore protecting the liver from damage caused by viruses and toxins. It may also help to regenerate damaged liver cells.
Milk thistle is also rich in iodine, and is often selected by horses with an imbalance within their endocrine system.Naturally Animals herbal blends are 100% natural. Our herbs are wild grown with little or no cultivation or intervention. Our wide selection is based on our extensive zoopharmacognosy knowledge, providing all that is needed to satisfy a horse’s innate instinct for foraging plants to rebalance the body.
Our herbal blends nutritionally support the body, and should not be seen as an alternative to veterinary intervention. They are intended to bet used in conjunction with any ongoing veterinary support.
Daily recommended dose between 15 and 50g per day, depending on the size of horse and level of support needed.
We recommend that you offer the individual herbs within our blends periodically to ensure that the herbs are still required by your horse and that you are not feeding the herbal blends when they are no longer required.
