With today’s modern environment, our horse’s bodies are subject to chemical wormers, vaccines, conventional drugs and processed feeds. Horses have not evolved to cope with these unnatural products and therefore from time to time their systems need a boost to detoxify and cleanse in order to prevent problems occurring.
Naturally Detox is made up of powerful alterative herbs and anti oxidants that clean the blood as well as nourish and support the eliminative organs (liver and kidneys in particular).
Burdock Root is an alterative herb and one of the best blood purifiers nature has provided. Alterative herbs clean and purify the blood as well as toning the organs (liver and kidneys). An excellent blood cleanser, its bitter taste also stimulates digestion. Rich in iron and insulin, burdock root lifts the blood as well as providing support for the liver.
Dandelion Root is exceptionally popular with horses and is a well known plant rich in vitamins A, B, C and D, with a higher vitamin A content than carrots. The whole plant is of benefit to the liver, kidneys, gall bladder, stomach, pancreas, intestines and blood.
Dandelion root stimulates and cleanses the liver, and is rich in iron and so of benefit where anaemia has been diagnosed. Its roots are bitter in taste and so promote appetite and the correct functioning of the digestion system as a whole.
Echinacea root is the best known herb to support the body’s immune system as well as being one of the best herbs for blood cleansing. Echinacea is a valuable alternative to anti-biotics and can be used to support the body against viral and bacterial infections as well as for boosting the immune system in times of illness.
Milk Thistle Seeds are very valuable in the treatment of any liver disorder. It is also the herb of choice to detoxify the body. Milk thistle contains a flavoniod (Vitamine P) called silymarin that has a direct effect on the liver, therefore protecting the liver from damage caused by viruses and toxins. It may also help to regenerate damaged liver cells.
Milk thistle is also rich in iodine and is often selected by horses with an imbalance within their endocrine system.
Nettles are known as a great Sprint tonic and general blood cleanser. Good old nettles, everyone complains about them growing everywhere but are such an important herb. Nettles are the richest source of chlorophyll as well as being rich in minerals such as iron, lime, potassium, sodium, sulphur and protein. They are a great source of vitamin C and therefore useful for supporting the body where anaemia has been diagnosed.
Plantain is known as an alterative herb, cleaning the blood and the eliminative tissues and organs. Alterative herbs gradually alter and correct impurities and toxins within the blood. Therefore plantain is beneficial for the liver, kidneys and skin. Plantain also has a stimulating alterative effect on the circulatory system.
It is one of the best herbs for blood detoxification, especially where blood poisoning or bites and stings are present as plantain reduces the swelling as well as healing the affected area.
Plantain is also beneficial for kidney and bladder complaints as well as for any skin condition.
Plantain is therefore one of the most efficient herbs for fighting infection and can also be used as a poultice to draw out infection.
Red Clover is known as an alterative herb, cleaning the blood and the eliminative tissues and organs. Alterative herbs gradually alter and correct impurities and toxins within the blood. Therefore red clover is beneficial for the liver, kidneys and skin.
As an excellent blood purifier, red clover is beneficial to the body for horses prone to laminitis, skin complaints and for detoxing the body.
Additionally, red clover has anti-spasmodic properties and is also an effective remedy for horses that have been run down or ill as it helps boost the immune system and support the body back to full health.
