We are what we eat and the same applies to horses.  Horses have not yet evolved to cope with the processed feeds and chemical wormers that we regularly administer and therefore it is important that we provide the relevant nutritional support to the digestive system if problems occur.

Classed as a stomachic herb, the root of the dandelion is bitter in taste and so promotes appetite and the correct functioning of the digestion system as a whole. Dandelion root is also known as a natural electrolyte. Herbs that strengthen the function of the stomach are known as stomachic as they are usually bitter which therefore promotes and improves digestion.

Fenugreek seeds are known as 'the conditioning herb'. They are excellent for 'poor-doers' as they aid digestion and help with weight gain. They help build top line and muscle so are also beneficial to horses with muscle atrophy. However fenugreek seeds are multi functional and can also help soothe inflammed intestines, reduce complications induced by gastric ulcers, acts as a digestion tonic due to strong and bitter taste as well as lowers blood glucose levels and so beneficial for metabolic syndromes.
