WHY USE HERBS FOR HORSES?
As herbivores, horses have evolved to roam and graze on a wide range of natural forage in order to obtain all the fibre, nutrients, minerals and vitamins they need to stay healthy.
Wild pastures contain hundreds of species, including wild grasses, herbs, hedgerows, trees etc - all of which combine to provide the range of herbs and medicinal plants required to keep the horses healthy.
Today's modern pastures are often sewn with only a few grass types. Even a horse kept at pasture 24 hours a day in todays man-made grazing are unable to select from the range of plants that they require. In addition any of the soils no longer contain the range of essential minerals necessary for the maintenance of good health. As such today's horses rely on their owners to provide the range of minerals, vitamins and fibre that they need. By feeding herbs we can supplement their existing forage to fill the gaps that they would naturally fill themselves if in the wild.
Herbs provide a wealth of essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients needed to replace some of the missing ingredients from their diet, to support their physical and mental well-being. Many people forget that most of today's pharmaceutical drugs are derived from plant extract. However, many of these drugs can have severe side effects. Nature contains its own medicinal chest, and by selecting the right herbs to suit your horse's needs you can affectively prevent and treat a range of conditions, inclusing respiratory disorders, allergies, digestive issues, behavioural problems to name but a few. Herbs can also support all the major organs, bone structure and nerve supply. When used correctly herbs are natural, gentle and extremely effective.
Please see our on-line shop for a selection of the most commonly required herbs, plus extra strength formulas to address specific problems.
Wherever possible this should be undertaken by self selection to allow the animal to guide it's own healing and support as it would in the wild. We are happy to provide an zoopharmacognosy session (self selection using a wide range of essential oils, algae, clays, vitamins, minerals and herbs).
PLEASE NOTE WE ALSO PROVIDE HERBAL SOLUTIONS FOR CATS AND DOGS - PLEASE SEE OUR PRODUCTS PAGES!
