Our charcoal is highly refined and purified to remove the harmful substances found in other grades, the charcoal is also activated. Activated charcoal is produced by heating charcoal to high temperatures (800 - 1000 degrees centigrade) this process alters the structure of the charcoal producing a lattice / honeycomb structure. This is a finely reduced powder (5-10 microns), which has a huge surface area for the absorption , 1g of activated charcoal may have an area of over 1000 square meters.
Our Activated charcoal only uses activated charcoal produced from Coconuts, the structure of activated charcoal produced from Coconuts is unique and works in harmony with our bodies, other forms of charcoal do not have the same health benefits.
Activated charcoal does not absorb any nutrients, minerals or vitamins as these substances are either too large or do not bond with activated charcoal.
A large proportion of the substances are adsorbed directly from the digestive system, to a lesser extent substances are adsorbed from blood vessels surrounding / supporting the digestive system, this process may occur by migration, secretion or diffusion the actual process is unknown.
Activated charcoal does not alter the chemistry of the body and does not form complexes with nutrients or minerals or food supplements.
The number of active sites on each particle of activated charcoal is limited, once these complexing sites have been occupied the particles of activated charcoal can play no further role in removing substances from the body, hence it is important to take activated charcoal regularly to ensure there is sufficient activated charcoal present to remove unwanted substances.
If your animal is on any prescribed medications we recommend that you discuss the use of activated charcoal with your vet, as it can affect the absorption of medication. The use of activated charcoal may cause a darkening of the stools, this is normal.
Particles of activated charcoal consists of a complex honeycomb, substances are attracted to the surface of the activated charcoal and are held by weak intermolecular forces to produce a charcoal complex.
Our Activated charcoal is pharmaceutical grade, B.P.C 1934 which stands for British Pharmaceutical Codex which defines the quality and specification of the activated charcoal. The correct chemical term for this grade of material is activated carbon.
Products based on charcoal should not be taken orally by man or animals as the material can contain harmful substances, only use Activated Charcoal (Carbon), produced from natural ingredients, no artificial additives or ingredients.
Our products make no medicinal claims, they are simply intended to support the body towards natural health.
